Maca (Peruvian cress) is grown exclusively in the Andes, which are 4 to 5,000 meters high. The golden, reddish, purple, blue, black or green root of the plant is a particularly valued food in the region.

Main active ingredients:

Carbohydrates (60%), proteins (10%), dietary fiber (8.5%), fat (2.2%) and uridine, malic acid and benzoyl derivatives, glucosilonate. It is rich in minerals and fatty acids, as well as amino acids and various polysaccharides.

Its two specific active ingredients are (1R, 3S) -1-methyltetrahydrocarboline, 3-carboxylic acid, which acts on the central nervous system, and p-methoxybenzyl isothiocyanate, which is considered an aphrodisiac.

Aphrodisiacs are believed to be consumed and enjoyed to greatly increase sexual desire, either physically or mentally.

The tuber of the maca plant is also claimed by many to be an aphrodisiac, according to some research, it increases sperm count, sperm viability and may help relieve the unpleasant symptoms of menopause.

Some sources refer to it as an adaptogenic plant (i.e., it only acts when it is needed and as it is needed).

So what is Maca for?
