The Asian wader (Centella asiatica), a plant known to the natives as Gotu Kola, is native to Asia. The plant, consumed as a vegetable and spice, is also grown in China, tropical Asia and Africa, and is used as a medicine in Ayurvedic medicine.

The most characteristic of its active ingredients are triterpene saponins (aziatic acid and madecasic acid) (2.5-8%), as well as their glycosides, aziaticosis and madecasoid components. The latter two drugs have anti-inflammatory (anti-inflammatory) effects. The effectiveness of the plant is due to these compounds. It also contains antioxidant flavonoids as well as polysaccharides.

The plant is mainly used externally in creams and compresses in Asia for the treatment of skin diseases, wounds, mild burns and sun-induced dermatitis.

When taken orally, it is used primarily in psychiatric disorders (insomnia), epilepsy, to combat physical and mental exhaustion.

It increases the synthesis of collagen and mucopolysaccharide, which promotes wound healing, but is also effective in increasing the elasticity of veins.

It has been shown to be effective in treating various venous circulatory failures (vulnerable capillaries, edematous legs, hemorrhoids). It helps with venous circulation and can be used effectively to improve peripheral circulation. Some literature has described the beneficial effects of the drug on the central nervous system in the treatment of mental disorders, anxiety, or as a sedative. It can help maintain memory and concentration at the right level, increasing mental abilities.

Thanks to its antioxidant effect, it can help reduce lipid peroxidation, increase HDL cholesterol, and reduce LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It can also be used with good effect in case of oxidative stress.
